Looking for Alfred.
Duration: 10:02 min. Johan Grimonprez. 2005.
In Looking for Alfred, by the Belgian artist, Johan Grimonprez (also the
director of the very known Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y ) explores the legacy of
Alfred Hitchcock.
Focusing on Hitch’s regular cameo appearances in each of his films,
Looking for Alfred re-enacts them with the aid of Hitchcock look-alikes,
weaving an unexpected narrative from Hitch’s fifty-year trail of walk-on
parts. Shot amongst the atmospheric interiors of the Palais des Beaux
Arts in Brussels, and making the most of the distinctive architecture of
this unique location, Grimonprez’s cinematic twists and turns echo the
trademark manner of the Master of Suspense.
Looking for Alfred
Part homage to Hitchcock, part investigation of look-alike culture, Looking
for Alfred is a witty and multi-levelled de-construction of notions of ‘reality’.
