Absolute Exotic deals with exoticism and race hierarchy, specifically discrimination between minor ethnic groups living within a foreign society. E.G. in Denmark it is cooler to be African or Asiatic rather than a Greenlandic or Muslim. The social status of a foreigner would be different elsewhere depending on the country’s (colonial) history.
Holy Wood
Holy Wood takes place Easter Week in the Philippines. Voluntaries flagellate and crucify themselves, as a re-enactment of Jesus Christ on the cross on Holy Friday. The documentary visuals is edited to a melodic music composition made for the video with lyrics inspired from the Gothic pop-rock icon Marilyn Manson. Two different religious believes meet in this video, without the viewer noticing it. |
